Willowwacks (무인산림지대)

Willowwacks는 찰나 시리즈 작업중  사유의 공간을 담으려한 시도들이다. 빽빽히 나무들만 있는 무인산림지대는 무인도 처럼 사람이 들어가기 힘든 곳이다. 사유의 공간도 그런 물리적으로 들어가기 힘든 공간이며 사유를 통해서만 들어가는, 또 무언가로 빽빽하게 차있는 산림지대 같은 곳이 아닌가라는 생각하에 몇 개의 작품을 만들어 보았다. 작품에서의 자소상은 창가에 서있지만 창은 없고 인물과 바닥에 드리워진 그림자를 통하여 유추할 수 있다. 그곳엔 생각하는 나를 생각하는 다른 나의 모습이 보인다.

기억의 장면을 더듬다 그것을 보는 나의 모습이 보이기 시작하였다. 내가 나를 볼 수 없기에, 기억속엔 내가 없어야 하지만 Willowwacks속의 작품에선 종종 나의 모습을 보곤 한다. 그것은 실재 기억 속 이미지와 과거의 나를 상상해 보여지는 이미지의 복합체일 수도 있다. 이후의 작업은 나를 보는 나의 모습에 관한 작업을 예상해 본다.

Willowwacks
Willowwacks works from chalna series are attempts to capture the personal space. Willowwacks filled with dense trees is where a human can hardly go into like uninhabited island. Personal space is a private space that is filled with all different kinds of things hence, it is hard to get in physically by others but it allows only privately or personally just like Willowwacks; based on this thought, I have made works replicate the idea.

The self-consciousness in the works stands at by a window but there is no window; it can be inferred through shadows of figures on the floor. There I see another myself thinking about myself.

As I reminisce about my memories, I began to recognize myself seeing myself reminiscing. As I cannot see myself through my eyes; it shouldn’t be possible to picturing myself from my memory. Nevertheless, I often see myself from the works of Willowwacks. It might be a composite of an image of reality in memory and an image of picturing myself from the past.

Later works could be about myself watching myself.
